Who is Jesus?
You may know His name. Here is why He is at the heart of this invitation.
God’s Son, who came close.
Jesus is the Son of God—fully God and fully human. He lived among us, knew grief and suffering, and showed us what God is like. His life reveals God’s love for people.
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:1, 14World English Bible (WEB)
15For we don’t have a high priest who can’t be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin.
16Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace for help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:15–16World English Bible (WEB)
The Savior who gave His life.
Sin separates us from God. Jesus lived without sin and died on the cross for ours, making a way for us to be forgiven and brought back to God. His love reaches us before we have earned anything.
8But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8World English Bible (WEB)
18Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit,
1 Peter 3:18World English Bible (WEB)
The risen Lord who invites you to follow.
Jesus rose from the dead. He offers new life and calls us to trust Him and learn His way of living. Through His Holy Spirit, God is present with His people as they grow.
3For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
1 Corinthians 15:3–4World English Bible (WEB)
16I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever:
17the Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive, for it doesn’t see him and doesn’t know him. You know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

God’s love comes first.
The invitation begins with God’s love for you.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16World English Bible (WEB)
Jesus came for us as we are.
You can come to Him before you have your life together.
8But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Grace is a gift.
Salvation is received through faith. You cannot earn it.
8for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9not of works, that no one would boast.
Ephesians 2:8–9World English Bible (WEB)
You can turn toward God.
Repentance means turning from sin and returning to Him.
19“Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord,
Acts 3:19World English Bible (WEB)
Put your trust in Jesus.
Faith involves believing in Jesus and acknowledging Him as Lord.
9that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10For with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation.
Romans 10:9–10World English Bible (WEB)
You can ask for forgiveness.
You can be honest with God about your sin.
9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9World English Bible (WEB)
New life is possible.
In Jesus, your past does not have to define your future.
17Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17World English Bible (WEB)
You are welcomed into God’s family.
Receiving Jesus means beginning a relationship with God as His child.
12But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name:

What happens next?
Whether you’re following Jesus for the first time or returning to Him, take one small step today. You don’t have to have it all together to keep growing.
Start getting to know Jesus.
Read a little of John, one of the Bible’s accounts of Jesus’ life. Begin with John 1:1–5 below. Take your time, notice what you learn about Him, and write down a question you want to explore.
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2The same was in the beginning with God.
3All things were made through him. Without him, nothing was made that has been made.
4In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it.
John 1:1–5World English Bible (WEB)
Talk with God today.
Use your own words. Thank Him for something. Tell Him what is hard. Ask for forgiveness and help with your next decision. Jesus gave His followers a simple example of how to pray.
9Pray like this: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
10Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
13Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.’
Matthew 6:9–13World English Bible (WEB)
Find people to walk with.
Tell a trusted Christian, “I’ve decided to follow Jesus. Could we read the Bible or pray together?” Look for a local church where the Bible is taught, people care for one another, and you can ask honest questions.
42They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and prayer.
43Fear came on every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
44All who believed were together, and had all things in common.
45They sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all, according as anyone had need.
46Day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart,
47praising God and having favor with all the people. The Lord added to the assembly day by day those who were being saved.
Acts 2:42–47World English Bible (WEB)
Learn about baptism.
Jesus taught His followers to be baptized. Baptism is a step of faith that connects with His death, resurrection, and your new life in Him. Ask a pastor or Christian community to explain it and help you prepare.
19Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Matthew 28:19–20World English Bible (WEB)
Practice love in something ordinary.
Listen to someone. Make an apology. Help where you can. Following Jesus grows into the way you treat people, one choice at a time. Ask Him to help you live what you are learning.
34A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another.
35By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
